Maryellen Crowell Obituary

Maryellen Sammons Crowell

Shortsville – Maryellen Crowell, 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua surrounded by her loving husband and daughters.

Maryellen was born in Milford, DE on August 1, 1943, the daughter of the late Lawrence Edward Sammons and Lydia Lank (Messick) Sammons. Maryellen graduated from Georgetown High School, went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Alderson Broaddus College, and her master’s degree in elementary education from SUNY Geneseo. Maryellen had a wonderful career teaching and caring for others. She taught kindergarten, owned a successful nursery school for ten years, and then went on to work for DDSO caring for people with physical and developmental disabilities.

Maryellen loved her family more than anything. She and Tom spent nearly fifty-four years together on an adventure of a lifetime. One of her greatest joys were her three grandchildren, with whom she would play for hours on end during which giggles and silliness ensued. She loved animals, especially pigs and her cat, Lulu; a good joke; a good margarita; and ice cream. She had a great sense of humor and a wonderful spirit. She was the most selfless person you could ever meet, always putting others before herself no matter what. Her friends and family describe her as a blessing. She lived with vigor, enthusiasm, joy, optimism and a love of God.

Maryellen will be remembered by her husband, Thomas L. Crowell; her sister, Louise King; her daughters Carriellen (Tommy) Beaudreau and Sarah (Matt) Wilder; her grandsons Alex and August Beaudreau and Thornton Wilder; her in-laws, Christine Coyne, Douglas (Blair Carter) Crowell, and Joanne (Douglas) Hahn; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

To honor Maryellen, the family will hold a service at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Manchester, PO Box 145, Manchester, NY 14504 or at manchesterfbc.org.
